Austin Texas has over 800 churches and other places of worship. The Texas capitol is home to many Christian denominations and non-Christian religions as well. The Nueces Mosque and other mosques serve the Islamic community of Austin. Austin also has a Buddhist temple and a Hindu temple.

Ecumenical efforts among the various faiths are strong in Austin. Father Larry Covington pastor of St. Louis King of France Parish in Austin is the current president of the Texas Council of Churcheswhich promotes interfaith dialogue and understanding. Interfaith Action of Central Texas (IACT) promotes cooperation and understanding between the various faiths in the Austin area; IACT members of all faiths cooperate in service projects such as Hands on Housing and the CROP Hunger Walk and also participate in interfaith worship services.
