Austin boasts a vibrant atmosphere and plenty of outdoor spaces, making it a fantastic city to explore with your furry companion. Whether your pup craves an off-leash romp, a leisurely stroll, or a splash in the water, Austin has something for every tail to wag.

Here are some dog-friendly places you can take your furry friend:

Great Northern Dog Park: This large off-leash dog park features walking paths, a retention pond, and grassy open areas. It’s a great place for dogs to run and play.

Auditorium Shores Dog Park: This dog park has separate areas for large and small dogs, as well as a swimming area for dogs to cool off in.

Parks and Recreation

Lady Bird Lake: Hike, bike, or jog along the scenic trails bordering this picturesque lake. Enjoy stunning views and leash-friendly exploration. Remember, swimming isn’t allowed for dogs, but plenty of shallow areas are perfect for dipping their paws.

Zilker Park:This sprawling park offers endless opportunities for fun. Visit the Zilker Botanical Garden for a leash-friendly stroll amidst blooming flowers, or head to the Barton Creek Greenbelt for a hike through scenic trails. Don’t miss the Zilker Metropolitan Park, home to a large off-leash dog area where your pup can socialize and run free.

Red Bud Isle: This off-leash island paradise is a haven for playful pups. Dogs can roam freely, swim in the designated areas, and chase frisbees to their heart’s content. Remember to be responsible and clean up after your pet.

Walnut Creek Metropolitan Park: Explore miles of trails, meadows, and creeks in this leash-optional park. Take a dip in the shallow waters of Walnut Creek or Wells Branch Creek for a refreshing cool-down.

Beyond the Parks

Barton Creek Greenbelt: This popular spot offers scenic hiking and biking trails, some of which are dog-friendly. Leashed pups can join you on designated trails, enjoying the fresh air and beautiful scenery.

Barton Creek Farmers Market: Indulge in locally sourced goodies while your pup socializes with other furry friends. Many vendors offer pet-friendly treats and accessories, making it a fun outing for both of you.

Yard Bar: This outdoor bar boasts a spacious patio where dogs are welcome. Enjoy a drink and a bite while your pup relaxes under the shade or makes new friends.

Zilker Botanical Garden: While not entirely dog-friendly, the Zilker Botanical Garden offers designated dog-walking areas where you can explore the lush grounds with your leashed pup.
