The future of Whisper Valley, East Austin’s zero energy capable master-planned community, is taking shape with a new Del Valle ISD high school, sustainable luxury apartments and a 600-acre public park in development.

Named Austin’s Master-Planned Community of the Year at the Home Builders Association of Greater Austin’s 2023 MAX Awards, Whisper Valley is a 2,063-acre community focused on sustainability, healthy living, technology and affordability. Developed by Taurus Investment Holdings, this innovative community has created the blueprint for residential master-planned communities of the future. Located on rolling terrain in East Austin, Whisper Valley homes are extremely energy-efficient and tech-savvy. They are served by Google Fiber and AT&T 5G Fiber, offering future-proof homes that are zero energy capable.

A sustainable solution

Offering a wide variety of home designs, lot sizes and price ranges to fit any lifestyle, Whisper Valley’s zero energy capable design is powered by the innovative EcoSmart Solution, a green energy supply system that uses a GeoGrid™ to harness the renewable geothermal energy of the earth coupled with Solar energy to power the homes, reducing energy consumption by up to 80%.

Installed up front like other traditional utilities, this GeoGrid connects to each home’s ground source heat pump to heat and cool all of the homes—as well as future commercial buildings planned in Whisper Valley—extremely efficiently.

When combined with solar panels, high-efficient appliances, smart home technology, and the Sense energy monitoring system, Whisper Valley residents can control their home’s energy usage by applying good energy behavior, reducing their monthly energy bills to close to or even actual zero.

New homes currently range from the upper $300s to $600s by outstanding Central Texas builders, including Pacesetter Homes, GFO Home, Thurman Homes, AHA Dream Homes and Terrata Homes.

Healthy living amenities

Whisper Valley features 700 acres of green space, parks and amenities to suit anyone’s desire to exercise or just enjoy nature. The community’s crown jewels are the large organic gardens professionally managed by a community farmer to deliver nutritious foods to residents.

Known as the Discovery Center, the community amenity center features a geothermal resort-style pool, fitness center, activity rooms and demonstration kitchen for community events, classes and activities. Pocket parks and playgrounds are located throughout each neighborhood, connected by nature trails leading to a spacious dog park and Certified Wildlife Habitat®.

The community’s lifestyle director plans and hosts dozens of fun activities for all ages every month, including a monthly farmer’s market, fitness classes including yoga, cooking demonstrations, kids’ activities, wine tastings, food truck dinners and much more.

New development

Whisper Valley celebrated community milestones with the recent groundbreakings of two projects: a new Del Valle ISD high school and the community’s first multifamily development, the Evergreen at Whisper Valley.

Located at 8200 Taylor Lane, Del Valle ISD’s second high school will address a growing student population in the northern part of the district. The planned 430,000-square-foot facility is scheduled to open in 2026 and will house various innovative programs that prepare students for college and careers after graduation.

Targeted to open in the spring of 2025, The Evergreen at Whisper Valley will offer one-, two- and three-bedroom floor plan options with best-in-class interior features, smart living technology and designer upgrades. The multifamily community will be built to adhere to the National Green Building Standards (NGBS) Bronze criteria and the Austin Energy Green Building (AEGB) 2-star rating.

Progress also continues on plans for Whisper Valley Park, a 600-acre public park located within the community. Whisper Valley Park will include nature trails and programmed areas, including picnic areas, manicured open spaces, playgrounds, shade structures, community gardens, a natural amphitheater for events and more. The park will also become the centerpiece of a new master trail plan that will ultimately connect the City of Austin’s 4,000-acre Walter E. Long Park & Lake, the Tavis County 14-mile trail system and the East Metropolitan Park through Whisper Valley, offering an estimated 20 miles of trails.

On the horizon, Whisper Valley will also offer single-family for-rent neighborhoods, plus garden office, boutique retail, restaurants and services in the first retail village at the future FM 973 & Braker Lane. When completed, the community will include 7,500 single-family and multi-family residences, a transportation hub, police and fire stations, a library, three Del Valle schools and a variety of thriving commercial services.
